Let's Talk About...

literature. Yep, that's what I'll be doing for 7 hours each day this week as I attend TCU's annual Advanced Placement Summer Institute. The mommy side of me is going to miss my Ella Bear since we've been spending every day together since summer break, but I think she really does miss her daycare buds. The teacher-bookworm-nerd side of me can't wait:)

I decided agaisnt going to AP training this summer because TCU falls between the week of curriculum writing and the week of technology training. Now I'm feeling mopey!

Do you know if DHS filled the English position that was posted? I told a couple of people (my two FAVORITE subs) to apply-it sounds like a happy place to work...

Do I know you, Epic? Where are you that a week is devoted to curriculum writing?...awesome! As far as I know the position has not been filled, so continue to encourage those you know to apply:) I believe it'll be Eng. II and IV, but don't quote me on that!

It sounds like you've gone to TCU before...did you attend the 7 Habits of an Efficient Teen session? If so, what'd ya think?

Hey, Lovelit. No, we've never met, though I do live in Decatur. I'm in Lewisville ISD, and we've spent a week for the last three summers working on curriculum. It's been brutally difficult work (we have 5 high schools) but, if I want a say in what we teach, I have to be involved! We're using Jay McTiegh and Grant Wiggins work, Understanding by Design, to frame our thinking.

I haven't been to TCU in a few years, so I'm not familiar with the session you mentioned. I spent two summers at three week institiutes held by the University of Dallas Summer Institute for Teachers. It was a teaching/life transforming experience! Teacher have to pay the $75 grad school application fee, but nothing else-and those people treat teachers like a rare and valuable asset.

Email me sometime-
